In the final game of its two-game road trip in the Upper Peninsula, the Wayne State men’s basketball team (14-7, 11-4 GLIAC) defeated the Michigan Tech Huskies (11-10, 9-5 GLIAC) 60-54, extending its winning streak to five games.

The Warriors opened the game with a 6-2 lead after back-to-back three-pointers by junior Ian Larkin. The Huskies cut the deficit to one point at 9-8, but WSU extended its lead to eight after a 7-0 run.

The Huskies tied the score at 16 midway through the first half. The two teams went back-and-forth for the remainder of the half, and after 20 minutes, the game was tied at 26.

Senior Ike Udanoh and Larkin opened the second half with consecutive baskets for WSU. Udanoh finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Larkin tallied 13 points.

Leading 32-30, the Warriors went on an 8-2 run to extend its lead to eight points. But MTU cut the WSU lead in half, making the score 42-38. The Warriors scored seven of the next nine points to make the score 49-40 with seven minutes remaining.

The Huskies battled back to get within three points. With 42 seconds left and the Warriors clinging to a 52-49 lead, senior Dale Brundidge hit a jumper to extend the lead to five points.
The Huskies could not connect on their next possession; and Udanoh made a pair of free throws to give the Warriors a 56-49 lead.

After a MTU score and two free throws by junior Cole Prophet, WSU led 58-51. The Huskies hit a three-pointer to make things interesting, but two more free throws by Udanoh sealed the game for the Warriors.

Prophet and senior Stacey Waters each finished with 13 points, while Brundidge contributed with six points.

WSU is back at home Feb. 11 against Northwood at 3 p.m. The Warriors are second in the GLIAC South Division and third overall.
