Men's basketball advances with 84-77 win over Northwood
The Wayne State men’s basketball team (18-8) began its defense of its GLIAC tournament championship with an 84-77 victory over the Northwood Timberwolves (18-9) in the GLIAC quarterfinals, Feb. 29 at the Matthaei.

Needing a win to clinch a home playoff game in the quarterfinals of the GLIAC tournament, the Wayne State men’s basketball team (17-8, 14-5 GLIAC)defeated the Lake Superior State Lakers (11-14, 6-12 GLIAC) in dominant fashion with a 76-54 victory.

In an exciting GLIAC tournament semifinal matchup, the Wayne State men’s basketball team (18-9 overall) fell just short of advancing to the championship game, as it was defeated by the Findlay Oilers(22-6 overall), 63-61, March 3 at Hillsdale College.
Women's basketball end season on high note
The Wayne State women’s basketball team (12-14, 7-12 GLIAC), coming off a five-game losing streak, were anxious to close out the 2011-2012 season with a win. They accomplished just that with a gutsy effort on Feb. 23 at Lake Superior State (10-15, 6-12 GLIAC), topping the Lakers 51-50.
Men's basketball upend Grand Valley, 80-67
It was Senior Day at the Matthaei, and in their final regular season home game, Wayne State’s seniors led the men’s basketball team (16-8, 13-5 GLIAC) to an 80-67 victory over the Grand Valley State Lakers (14-11, 10-8 GLIAC). Seniors Andrew Tines, Cole Brundidge, Ike Udonah and Stacey Waters were honored before the game for their years at WSU.
