Fresh off of a national title appearance in 2011, the Wayne State football team unofficially turned the page on April 14, playing its annual spring game at Adams Field.
Winters named AFCA coach of the year
Wayne State football head coach Paul Winters was voted the American Football Coaches Association Division II Coach of the Year for 2011.

Three former WSU football players ink NFL deals

Three former players from the 2011 Wayne State national final football team had their dreams come true as they signed free agent contracts with NFL teams on Monday.

It could have been a lot worse for the football program at Trumbull Avenue and Tartar Drive. A day after Wayne State’s improbable playoff run abruptly ended in the Division II championship game Dec. 17, coach Paul Winters received a call everyone was expecting. It was officials from the University of Akron on the other end.
Winters to stay at WSU
Coach Paul Winters signed an extension to stay as the face of Wayne State football through 2016, according to The Detroit News.

Let it snow, let it snow. The Warriors’ good luck charms Nov. 19 were a Minnesota blizzard and an unbelievable power running performance by Toney Davis. He broke Wayne State’s single-game rushing record with 326 yards on 38 carries, along with 5 TDs. Wayne State moves on Nov. 26 to face No. 4 Nebraska-Kearney in the second round of the Division II playoffs.
