It could have been a lot worse for the football program at Trumbull Avenue and Tartar Drive. A day after Wayne State’s improbable playoff run abruptly ended in the Division II championship game Dec. 17, coach Paul Winters received a call everyone was expecting. It was officials from the University of Akron on the other end. DEC 29

Let it snow, let it snow. The Warriors’ good luck charms Nov. 19 were a Minnesota blizzard and an unbelievable power running performance by Toney Davis. He broke Wayne State’s single-game rushing record with 326 yards on 38 carries, along with 5 TDs. Wayne State moves on Nov. 26 to face No. 4 Nebraska-Kearney in the second round of the Division II playoffs.
