Women's hockey first major victim of budget cuts
The state’s sole D-1 women’s hockey program was cut by WSU athletics when it told coach Jim Fetter and players there would be no more hockey due to looming budget cuts.

As a three-time winner of College Hockey America’s Coach of the Year award, Wayne State women’s hockey head coach Jim Fetter has been sitting comfortably in his position for the past eight years.

No slack left for hockey program

A month following the outright elimination of the state’s lone Division I women’s hockey club, junior defenseman Ciara Lee delivered a speech and plea to the WSU Board of Governors. She asked the members June 23 to embody the team’s motto to “hold the rope,” giving her team at least one more season.
